I grew up in the suburbs of New York City, spent summers during my college years working there, fell in love once and broke my heart a few times there as well. In January of 2012, I returned to visit my daughter, who lives in Brooklyn, and to see some of the sights I loved and frequented in my younger days and a few that had sprung up in the years since. One stormy afternoon, we stood on the 86th floor Observation Deck of the Empire State Building and witnessed a display of light that made the whole trip that much more special.
